Man found dead with "self-inflicted" wound on University Street

The  Mount Pleasant Police Department discovered a 63-year-old man with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at 7:49 a.m. on 609 S. University Street.

According to MPPD Officer Nathan Koutz, the male victim, who died of a gunshot wound to the chest, was not a Central Michigan University student.

MPPD released a statement which revealed the investigation by officers determined that no foul play was involved and that it does not appear to be a criminal matter.

Aprial Curry, who lives on the same 600 block of the deceased, said she heard a noise and was frightened to learn it came from a gun.

"I heard something last night and asked my husband what that noise was," Curry said. "He said it was a firecracker. I didn’t hear anything at all this morning."
