Emeritus math professor David McDowell dies at 83

David McDowell, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Friday, March 8, 2024, at Henry Ford Hospital in Clinton Township with his family by his side. 


Former CMU Administrator Kathleen 'Kathy' Wilbur dies at 70

Notable member of CMU administration Kathleen "Kathy" Wilbur died over the weekend. Her extensive career in government, leadership and administration included 16 years at Central Michigan University. 


Emeritus professor John 'Jack' Hartman dies at 77

John K. “Jack” Hartman of rural Powell, Ohio, died March 9, at age 77. An emeritus professor of journalism and member of the Journalism Hall of Fame at Central Michigan University, and a distinguished alumnus of the Ashland Ohio City Schools, Hartman was known for his 20 years of service on the Bowling Green, Ohio Board of Education; his two books about the national newspaper USA TODAY; and his visiting professorship at King Saud University. 


Former CMLifer and Morning Sun reporter Mindy Norton remembered for diligent work, strong friendships

One of Norton’s own favorite stories was fulfilling the goal of so many old-school journalists. In 2000, when the presses were running and declaring Al Gore as president before Florida results were in, she got to run into the production facility and scream, “Stop the presses!”.
