Construction for a commercial hotel on Central Michigan University’s campus will begin this fall.

The 18-month project is scheduled to start Nov. 1, said CMU President George Ross at the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Outlook Luncheon.

The six story, 148 room hotel will feature a 250-person capacity conference room and is being paid for and built by Lodgco, a hospitality company which builds hotels.

He said the Courtyard Marriott hotel will be located east of Kelly/Shorts Stadium and that the university will not provide any funding.

CMU is leasing the land for the hotel to local developer Lodgeco for 30 years and will receive leasing revenue from the land for the duration of the lease.

Ross said hospitality students will be trained in the facility and hoped the hotel would provide an added venue for visitors to Mount Pleasant on CMU’s campus.
