Speak Up Speak Out forum to discuss civil rights and LGBTQ community

Speak Up Speak Out, a student forum, will hold its first discussion, #MoreThanMarriage, from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21 in the Park Library Auditorium.

A panel made up of students and staff will discuss views on whether state and federal laws should protect people from discrimination on the basis of gender identity and sexual orientation. Panelists will guide the conversation and also cover topics of LGBTQ+ representation in the media, and whether personal religious beliefs should provide an exemption from non-discrimination laws.

The goal of Speak Up Speak out is to create a space for conversations about topical social and political issues that affect students. A short introductory video opens the panel discussion before students are encouraged to participate.
