The men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams were both slotted fifth in Monday’s Mid-American Conference preseason coaches’ poll — which implies two vastly different outlooks for the teams.

Men’s track is slated to finish fifth out of five teams while the women are slotted fifth out of 12. The polls are topped by last year’s indoor conference champions — Akron for the men and Eastern Michigan for the women.

The CMU men and women both finished fifth in last year’s indoor MAC Championship meet and fifth and sixth respectively in the outdoor MAC Championship meet.

Both CMU teams started the indoor season Dec. 4 at the Saginaw Valley State Holiday Classic, where nine Chippewas qualified for the Feb. 26-27 MAC Indoor Championships.

They compete next at the Eastern Michigan Quadrangular at 11 a.m. on Jan. 23.
