Rush lands spot in ESPN analyst's top senior quarterbacks list
ESPN NFL analyst Mel Kiper Jr. recently released his "Way-Too-Early 2017 Big Board" and a familiar name landed a spot in Kiper's top-five senior quarterbacks list.
Central Michigan University's senior signal caller Cooper Rush comes into Kiper's list as the fifth best senior quarterback to watch this fall.
California's Davis Webb tops the list, followed by Minnesota's Mitch Leidner, Mississippi's Chad Kelly, C.J. Beathard of Iowa and then Rush.
The Charlotte native Rush, a 6-foot-3, 227 pound pocket passer out of Lansing Catholic High School, threw for 3,848 yards in 2015 — his second consecutive season with more than 3,000 yards via the air. Rush tallied 25 touchdowns during his junior campaign, throwing 11 interceptions. In his 489 attempts last season, Rush completed 324 of them, finishing with a .663 percentage.
Leidner threw for 2,809 yards, 17 touchdowns and 8 interceptions in 2015. Bearthard threw for 2,701 yards, 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Rush is the only quarterback from a non-Power Five school listed.
Rush and the Chippewas begin their season Sept. 1 against Presbyterian at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
