By the Numbers: Women's basketball through first 10 games
The Central Michigan women's basketball team is now 10 games into the 2016-17 season and have posted a 7-3 overall record with their most recent win coming on Friday in overtime against Saint Joesph's.
With just a couple games remaining on the non conference slate, here is a look at their season by the numbers.

CMU started the season losing two of it’s first three games, in which both loses the team didn’t score over 60 points. Then the Chippewas went on to win five games in a row where they scored at least 70 points in each game. In every game Central has won this season they have scored over 70 points and in every game they've lost they've scored under 60.

Coach Sue Guevara said she wanted her team to shoot over 50 percent in every game because that meant they were finding good offensive consistency. The Chippewas are shooting just over 41 percent from the field this season and are shooting just over 32 percent from 3-point range. Look for those numbers to be key in the second half of the season.

In the first and fourth quarter’s this season the Chippewas are being outscored this season, and in the second quarter they are only outscoring their opponents by one point. However, the third quarter seems to be the one where CMU finds most of it’s success, outscoring their opponents 199-164.

Five out of the Chippewas seven wins have come at home this season where they have posted a 5-1 record at McGuirk Arena. However, they have yet to find a road win where they are 0-2. The team is 2-0 at neutral sites.

Senior forward Jewel Cotton leads the team in points per game at 14.5. She gets almost all of her points from inside where she is shooting 67.4 percent.

CMU’s opponents have turned the ball over 149 times while the Chippewas have turned it over 144 times. CMU’s assist-to-turnover ratio is 0.9 which is something Guevara said she wants to see improve every game.

CMU has taken 233 3-point attempts this season and has made 75 of them. 32 of those makes have come from junior guard Cassie Breen. She is shooting 40 percent from 3-point distance, which is just a little under eight percent better than what her team is shooting on the season from deep.

The Chippewas have had a total of three overtime periods this season. So far, CMU has played a total of 15 extra minutes of game time, and have won both of the games that used extended play to declare the outcome. They are outscoring their opponents 30-25 in overtime, making both finishes close.

This is the average attendance for home games this season for CMU. The total attendance so far is 8,425, with 3,372 coming in the game against Loyla which was the annual “Hoops for Hunger” game with 12 elementary and middle schools in attendance.
The Chippewas will be back at McGuirk Arena after finals where they will take on Illinois at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 19
