Ward, Sheldon earn MAC West Player of the Week honors

Sophomore running back Jonathan Ward talks to the media on Nov. 3 in the Indoor Athletic Center. 

In the Central Michigan football team's victory over Western Michigan, sophomore running back Jonathan Ward put on a show to earn the Mid-American Conference West Division Offensive Player of the Week award. 

The 194-pound running back rushed 18 times for 132 yards and one touchdown. He added four receptions for 81 yards, totaling 213 all-purpose yards. 

Junior punter Jack Sheldon was named the MAC West Division Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against the Broncos. 

Sheldon put three punts inside the 20-yard line to keep Western Michigan deep in their own territory. One of the three was a 60-yard punt in the rain at Waldo Stadium. 

On the season, Ward has 113 rushing attempts for 592 yards and five touchdowns, along with 38 receptions for 326 yards and one score. 

Senior quarterback Shane Morris also had a productive outing against WMU. He accounted for 270 total yards and four touchdowns. 

Along with Morris’ stellar performance, senior wide receiver Corey Willis caught five receptions for 148 yards and the game winning touchdown.
