Kevin Gamble has departed from the Central Michigan men’s basketball program.

The former assistant coach of the Chippewas is headed to the NBA level, where he will be an advance scout for the Toronto Raptors. Gamble was on head coach Keno Davis’ staff since Davis joined the program in 2012-13.

Gamble played 10 seasons in the NBA with the Portland Trailblazers, Boston Celtics, Miami Heat and Sacramento Kings.

Gamble coached with Davis at Providence from 2010-12 before coming with him to CMU. Gamble said he has always had a good relationship with Davis and his father.

“I have always used a lot of the schemes that Keno’s father has used for my own coaching,” Gamble said. “Really the main reason I got a shot at the Division I level was because of Keno and his father.”

Kyle Gerdeman and Jeff Smith still remain on the Chippewas' assistant coaching staff.

In his time at CMU, Gamble helped the Chippewas to two MAC West Division titles and and one overall MAC regular season title in 2014-15.

Gamble’s daughter, Averi, was a member of the CMU women’s basketball team a year ago on their run to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. She is not listed on the 2018-19 roster. According to Central Michigan Athletics, Averi is still a student at CMU.

Last season, Gamble helped the Chippewas to a 21-15 finish with a berth in the Collegeinsider.com Postseason Tournament. 21 wins was the second-highest win total since the 2002-03 season, the most (23) wins came for Davis and Gamble in 2014-15.
