Central Michigan receiver Julian Hicks meets with youngsters at the Kids Clinic on April 13 in the Indoor Athletic Complex.

Central Michigan wide receiver Julian Hicks is officially in the NCAA transfer portal, the redshirt sophomore announced April 19.

Hicks was expected to play a key role in CMU's offense this season, but he is now looking elsewhere to play football. Most college players that enter the NCAA transfer portal depart from their current university.

However, entering the portal does not always mean a player is guaranteed to transfer. It just gives them an option to look elsewhere. Other programs are now allowed to contact Hicks. With this new model, players no longer need to request permission from their current programs to check out other schools.

During the 2018 season, Hicks emerged as a key wide receiver option for the Chippewas. He played in nine games, making 28 receptions for 313 yards and four touchdowns.

Statistically, Hicks was slated to be CMU's top returning wide receiver.

Earlier in the offseason, CMU lost defensive end Mike Danna to Michigan through the transfer portal. Danna is considered a graduate transfer and will be eligible to play for the Wolverines in 2019.
