Rants & Raves

Rants and Raves out of an idiot's mouth on this Wednesday morning:

There is no other day in which optimism is higher than on opening day of major league baseball. Now, granted, I probably will not care about baseball in a couple of weeks, but the power of opening day can not be denied.

Our mighty Tigers started the season right by laying the smack down on the Rangers from Texas. There is no way that the Tigers will "restore the roar" this year, but I think if everybody plays up to their ability the boys of summer will have a solid year.

Their line-up is good, with players like Bobby Higginson, Tony Clark and Dean Palmer. I am also impressed with their bullpen which is better than most give them credit for. The only problem I see is the starting pitching. After you get past Brian Moehler and Justin Thompson the Tigers are in real trouble. Unless they re-sign Dan Petry, my prediction is that they will be above .500 and make a push for the wild card.

Coaches in the NBA are getting their pink slips faster than Marv Albert does. The latest casualty is Bernie Bickerstaff who brings the total of coaches fired to three. Keep in mind we are just halfway through a shortened season.

However, I must admit Bickerstaff deserved the axe. A team with Rod Strickland, Mitch Richmond and Juwan Howard should not be below .500.

I urge every one of my three readers to watch the "Norm" show tonight at 9:30 on ABC. It is on the cutting edge of humor.

I think the Pistons have celebrated the "Bad Boys" enough. I would not have minded one night to bring everyone back and relive their accomplishments, but this is getting out of hand. What is next- Fennis Dembo night? Or maybe concession workers from section 244 night!

Here is a little side note to George Blaha: Just because you announced the Pistons games during their championship run does not mean you are a champion. At best you are a below average announcer who is truly disturbing. The only reason people think you are a good announcer is the dead weight you carry along in the form of Kelly Tripucka. Tripucka is the only person in this world more annoying than the show "The Nanny".

I must say that I enjoyed the Pistons wearing their old school uniforms. They must toss away the teal and bring back the red, white and blue.

Speaking of the "Bad Boys" celebrations why don't the Tigers do anything for their 1984 championship team since it is the 15 year anniversary? I want Barbaro Garbey night!

Will everybody stop giving Isiah Thomas so much credit for building the Toronto Raptors. Do not get me wrong, I believe the Raptors are an exciting and talented team that will be a force in this league for the next couple of years. However, I do not remember Thomas drafting Vince Carter and I do not believe that he was involved with the trade to get Charles Oakley which are the two most important pieces of the puzzle.

So get over yourself Thomas, you do not need to turn into Magic Johnson and make sure you get credit for everything that happens in basketball.

I think that cats are an absolute waste of a pet. All they do is sit there and wait to be fed. It is not like you can even play with them.

In my utopian society, cats would be relinquished and all the owners who treat their cats like kids would follow them. Remember there is a fine line between being the woman with cats and being the "crazy cat lady."
