Baseball team wins first two against Central Florida

Sophomore left-hander Trent Howard pitched a complete game, 11-strike out shutout to lead the CMU baseball team past Central Florida 3-0 Saturday in Orlando.

Senior center fielder Billy Anderson hit a two-RBI single in the fifth inning to give CMU a lead it would not relinquish.

Freshman shortstop Jordan Dean added an RBI-single in the ninth inning to round out the scoring.

Anderson and Dean were CMU's only two batters to have multiple hits. Both went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Howard (1-1) gave up just two extra-base hits and walked one batter.

On Friday, CMU beat UCF 11-5, and four players had a multi-RBI game.

Senior third baseman James Teas, sophomore first baseman Nate Theunissen and Dean had two RBIs each. Senior catcher Dale Cornstubble had three RBIs.

Senior right-hander Jesse Hernandez (1-0) got the win on the mound, pitching six innings and allowing five earned runs. He allowed seven hits and walked five batters while striking out six.

Sophomore reliever Zach Cooper pitched three innings of scoreless relief, allowing one hit and striking out four.

CMU and UCF finish their series Sunday at 1 p.m.
