Zach Cooper loses first MAC game as baseball falls at EMU

Senior Nate Theunissen had a three-hit game to open the series against Eastern Michigan.

Unfortunately those three hits were half the Central Michigan offense and none of them brought in a run as the Eagles won 4-0 in Ypsilanti on Friday.

Senior starting pitcher Zach Cooper came in with an unbeaten record in Mid-American Conference play, which ended. Cooper lasted seven and 1/3 innings striking out six and allowing just three hits, but he also walked three that came back to hurt the Chippewas (14-20, 5-5 MAC).

CMU had plenty of opportunities to cut into the Eagles (15-18, 7-3 MAC) lead, but left 14 runners on base including leaving the bases loaded in the second inning, fourth inning and eighth inning.

The Chippewas came into the game with the opportunity to tie EMU on top of the MAC West standings and despite the loss still have the opportunity to do just that this weekend. CMU will have to win back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday to force a first-place tie.

CMU will send out junior Patrick Kaminska to the mound Saturday looking to even up the series at 3 p.m.
