Baseball rally comes up short in the ninth inning: CMU falls 5-4 at Boston College

After a pitcher’s duel between Central Michigan and Boston College on Friday afternoon the bats came alive near the end of the game.

It was 0-0 heading into the fifth inning before the Eagles scored a run in three consecutive innings. That run helped the Eagles defeat the Chippewas 5-4 to give CMU a 2-7 overall record.

CMU finished the game scoring in the last three frames but it wasn’t enough as CMU’s bullpen gave up two runs in the top of the ninth.

The Chippewas didn’t go down without a fight.

Boston College’s pitching staff struggled with control in the ninth. After walking second baseman Pat MacKenzie, he advanced to second on a wild pitch and then later to third on a passed ball.

First basemen Cody Leichman was walked to first base before Tyler Huntey batted both MacKenzie and Leichman in on a single leftfield.

Logan Regnier came to the plate with a chance to hit the game tying run in or the game winner with a homerun.

Regnier was already 3-for-3 up to that point but lined out to leftfield ending the Chippewas’ hopes of a come from behind victory.

CMU pitcher Jordan Foley pitched six and two-thirds of an innings before turning the ball over to the bull pen.

Foley finished with five strike outs, three earned runs, and three walks.
