Softball drops series finale at Kent State

Despite taking an early lead, Central Michigan (14-15, 5-3) dropped its final game against the Kent State Golden Flashes by a final of 6-3. 

CMU started Grace Lehto cruised through the first two innings in the circle, but trouble struck in the third. Emily Lippe gave the Golden Flashes their first lead with a grand slam to left field and Madison Hershberger delivered a solo shot, turning a 1-0 CMU lead into a 5-1 advantage for Kent State. 

Skylar Coberley opened the scoring in the 2nd inning with heads up base running after reaching on a double to centerfield. Maddie Springer notched her third RBI of the season to make the score 1-0. 

Coberley kept rolling with a solo shot of her own in the fourth. Springer doubled in the fifth and threaten, but the Chippewas couldn't add to the rally. 

Kent State extended its lead to 6-2 with an unearned run against Chippewa reliever Caitlyn Britton in the fifth. 

An RBI groundout from Abbie Tolmie gave the Chippewas life in the seventh, but Shannon Stein struck out with a runner on second to end the game.  

Up next

The Chippewas come back home for a three game series against Northern Illinois University beginning Saturday at 1 p.m.
