Business fraternity offers help with finding careers

Alpha Kappa Psi Professioanl Business Fraternity, has been contributing to student's education and the community since 1964.

The objectives of Alpha Kappa Psi are to help students to find a career, develop skills needed for survival in the business world and pursue a career, said Kelli Woodard, Alpha Kappa Psi president and Canton senior.

In order to go through Alpha Kappa Psi's pledge process, students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.25, cannot be a first-semester freshman, must have at least three semesters left - including the pledge semester - and must show a strong interest in business, Woodard said.

Alpha Kappa Psi participates in many campus and community events, Woodard said.

The fraternities biggest event is Alpha Kappa Psi Career Day, which takes place once a semester, and brings over 100 employers to campus to recruit students.

Resume´ workshops, speakers, faculty involvement and company tours are also Alpha Kappa Psi events.

The fraternity also hosts social events and participates in intramural sports and members also volunteer at soup kitchens and animal shelters.

Woodard said fraternity members are able to experience all types of involvement.

"It's a great way to achieve well balanced involvement," she said. "You get everything, the professional aspect, the faculty and community involvement, and the social side as well. It makes up the most well-balanced involvement you'll find.

"It's a lot of fun, you meet a lot of people, it's a great way to get involved," she said.
