Sports Update: Field hockey loses 1-0 to Longwood

The field hockey team lost its tenth one goal game of the season Saturday in a game 1-0 loss Longwood in Muncie, Ind.

“It is always disappointing to lose a game,” said senior goal keeper Melinda Curran. “To lose another game by only one goal is tough again.”

Longwood's Amanda Babineau scored on a rebound early, which decided the game.

Coach Cristy Freese thinks the Lancers had great success with the way they set up their defense.

“They really stacked players in the circle like Ohio did and that makes it hard to get inside the circle and to get shots on the net,” she said. “They also did a great job on their penalty corners defense. We had a lot of penalty corners and everything that we did they pretty much responded to.”

The team will play two Mid-American Conference games next week against Kent State and Ohio.

Curran doesn’t feel the loss to Longwood will affect the teams focus in preparing for next weekend.

“I don’t think this loss is going to affect our team much going forward,” she said. “We have OU and Kent next weekend and we have already played them once so I think we will have a better idea of the teams going into the games.”
