Baseball team starting to heat up thanks to the Bash Brothers

With your mittens on, coats buttoned up, and hats firmly on your heads in this seemingly endless winter of negative 15 degrees with five feet of snow, I’m sure I know what most of you are thinking about.

Central Michigan baseball.

But just in case you’re not, here is what the baseball team has been up to in the nice warm weather when they travel to the west coast or down south while we suffer here.

Baseball opened up the season in Las Vegas against UNLV three weeks ago.

Maybe they were distracted by all the street performers, maybe they were distracted by the bright lights on the strip. Either way, they left Vegas like many visitors do.

Winless.

After getting swept four games in Vegas, the team took a trip down to Alabama.

They picked up their first win of the season against Troy and ended up splitting the series 2-2.

This past weekend they traveled to Florida for the Snowbird Classic. They lost to Boston College and Northeastern, but beat St. Bonaventure and Villanova.

On Sunday, they whooped Villanova 13-3.

Starting pitcher Adam Aldred pitched a gem, going seven innings while striking out eight batters. Aldred along with Pat Kaminska and Nick Deeg, form a solid rotation for the Chippewas that will be needed if they are to compete for a Mid-American Conference title this year.

After all, they were picked second in their division.

If you don’t know the Regnier brothers, you should.

I know the original “bash brothers” belong to the Mighty Ducks movies, but the Regnier brothers are making a serious bid at that nickname. If CMU scores, it’s likely that one of them has something to do with it.

Both senior Nick Regnier and sophomore Logan play in the outfield. Logan had quite the weekend in Florida, collecting three hits against Boston College and two against St. Bonaventure.

It all came to a conclusion on Sunday when they both took part in shredding the Villanova pitching staff in the fifth inning. CMU scored six runs that inning off four different pitchers.

Against Villanova, freshman Robert Greenman and sophomore Ryan Heeke had their first career hits as Chippewas. Freshman pitcher Jordan Grosjean made his first career appearance, going two innings and allowing zero runs.

After a not so hot start to the season, the baseball team seems to be heating up, literally, as they travel back to Florida next weekend to play in Orlando, home of Disney World and the originally bash brothers.

I know what you’re thinking, the baseball team has it rough traveling to Las Vegas and Florida instead of being in this winter wonderland.
