Break in reported at Delta Phi Epsilon sorority house

A break in was reported at the Delta Phi Epsilon-Beta Phi chapter sorority house on May 15, according to Mount Pleasant police. The house is located on 910 S. Washington St.

MPPD Public Information Officer Jeff Thompson said the break in occurred while the house was empty and that there was no indication of forced entry. While there was no damage to the house, two sorority paddles and a Greek Week trophy were stolen from the residence.

Based on his conversations with the sorority member who reported the incident, Thompson said the break in was most likely a Greek Life prank, as opposed to an act of malice. Thompson added that these cases are fairly typical and the suspect most likely knew the victims, effectively slipping in when no one was home.

"Historically, a short time after they let us know the articles (are) returned," Thompson said. "It doesn't seem that they're looking for an in-depth investigation because they'll pretty much get the property back anyways"
