Central Michigan baseball traveled down to Ohio over the weekend to play the Toledo Rockets in the Chippewas’ season finale. The Rockets dominated all three games between Thursday and Saturday, winning all by six or more runs.

With the three losses, Central Michigan’s season officially comes to an end. The team finished the season with a 20-35 overall record and 11-19 in conference play.

Game 1

Toledo took firm control of the first game, scoring the first five runs in the second inning. From there, the Rockets never looked back, adding three or more runs in every inning for the rest of the game. Central Michigan was kept off of the scoreboard until the top of the seventh inning, in which it managed three runs.

Ultimately, Toledo’s massive lead led to a shortened, seven-inning game ending in a 21-3 win for the Rockets.

The Chippewas surrendered 18 hits and committed three errors in the blowout.

Game 2

The second game of the weekend was slightly more competitive, though it ended in similar fashion to game one. Central Michigan scored the first run of the game, when junior catcher Aydin Wright grounded out to third base and sophomore left fielder Mikey Murphy crossed home plate.

Toledo responded with a run in the third. Central Michigan added four runs to its tally in the fourth with the help of a two-run homer by Murphy and a second RBI from Wright.

The Rockets matched the Chippewas with four runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at five.

From there, the Rockets added three runs in the sixth and three in the seventh, all while keeping the Chippewas off the board.

In the end, Toledo was again victorious, this time with a score of 11-5.

Game 3

In the final game of the series, Toledo took the opening lead with two runs scored in the second inning. Central Michigan scored two of its own in the top of the third with home runs by Murphy and junior second baseman Aaron Piasecki.

Over the course of the next three and a half innings, the Rockets scored 14 runs to take a commanding lead. The Chippewas managed two runs in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough to keep the game from ending early.

Toledo finished the series sweep with the 16-4 win, officially ending the Chippewas’ season.
