Baseball loses to Oakland, has dropped three of last four

Looking for its 19th road win of this season, the Central Michigan University baseball team (28-16) fell 5-3 to Oakland University (12-33) Wednesday. The Chippewas dropped three of the past four games.

In the seventh inning, with two men on and down three, scored a run on a wild-pitch. With runners on the corners, senior second baseman Pat MacKenzie grounded out.

OU scored three runs in the first inning against junior pitcher Josh Pierce. Another two runs were added in the third and sixth innings. Pierce threw three innings, giving up five hits and striking out two.

Taking the hill for OU was junior Chris Van Dyke, who underwent Tommy-John surgery last season. Van Dyke pitched five innings, had four strikeouts and allowed only two runs.

Freshman shortstop Zach McKinstry had two hits and two runs on the day.MacKenzie–who leads the Chippewas in hits, batting average and runs scored this season–had one hit, a run scored and a stolen base.

For the OU offense, second basemen Ian Yetsko had two hits and two RBI’s against CMU pitchers. Center fielder Robby Enslen had three hits and two runs on the day.

The Chippewas continue to lead the Mid-American Conference West Division and have the best overall record in the MAC. CMU starts a three-game series against Northern Illinois University at home starting at 3:05 p.m. Friday. NIU is at the bottom of the MAC West with a conference record of 7-11.
