Shepherd resident and 25-year-old Curtis Porter was arrested last night on charges of operating while intoxicated, fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of an injury accident, reckless driving and possession of marijuana.

At 1:39 a.m., a Mount Pleasant Police officer attempted to stop Porter for suspicion of driving under the influence. Porter failed to stop, resulting in a short chase until the officer lost sight of the vehicle.

During the next few minutes, Central Dispatch received calls of an injury accident at the intersection of Pickard and Brown streets. Police say Porter could not navigate the curve on Brown Street and passed through a yard, crashing into a privacy wall at Belle Tire.

Debris from the wall damaged several cars parked at Belle Tire. When officers arrived on the scene, Porter's vehicle was on fire.

Porter fled from the scene on foot and was found by another officer from the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police Department blocks away.

Porter suffered minor injuries and refused treatment. He was lodged at the Isabella County Jail on a bond of $20,000.
