Warriner Hall offices to reopen Thursday

Offices in Warriner Hall will reopen on Thursday, said Vice President of Finance and Administrative Services Barrie Wilkes.

"Testing for air and dust samples came back clear," Wilkes said. "There is one exception under Plachta (Auditorium) but that won't affect the administrative side of the building."

The building was closed May 29 after tests found elevated levels of asbestos in the air when crews were working on the waterlines. Workers noticed insulation and old pipes in an air duct in the building's crawl space.

Plachta Auditorium will remain closed off from the rest of the building as abatement crews continue cleaning. Janitors will clean Warriner offices Wednesday, and phones will be switched back to their original locations.

Previous tests showed more work needed to be done in the building. Workers installed a new air handling system for the President's office. On the third floor, air ducts were cleaned.

The estimated cost of the abatement will not be determined until the cleaning of the building is complete. Wilkes said once the abatement of the auditorium is complete, the university will be able to calculate the cost.
