UPDATE: Romero charged following stabbing of mother, step father

Mount Pleasant resident Juan Romero III has been charged with five felonies and two misdemeanors after stabbing his mother and step father on July 2. 

The 22-year-old has been charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, a five-year felony, two counts of felonious assault, a four-year felony and two counts of aggravated domestic violence, a maximum penalty of a year in jail, according to the Isabella County Sheriff's Department. 

His bond has been set at $800,000. Romero remains lodged at the Isabella County Jail. His probable cause hearing is scheduled for July 16. 

Romero's step father received multiple stab wounds and was taken to McLaren and then transported by helicopter to Saginaw St. Mary hospital. 

His mother was stabbed in the face and taken to McLaren Central Michigan, then transferred to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.
