Suspect pending arraignment for OWI, illegal entry

The Isabella County Sheriff's Department is investigating a vehicle crash and illegal entry that occurred on Sept. 9.

In Sherman Township, a 22-year-old man was driving on Carmen Drive and failed to complete a curve on the road, driving instead on a grassy area, striking a large oak tree. His car overturned. A nearby neighbor smashed out the driver's window and the driver crawled out, beginning to run the opposite direction down the road.

Then the driver went to a home on Siesta Lane and knocked on the door. When another man answered, the driver pushed the door open, passing the resident. The driver left on his own a short time after entering. He was found by deputies on foot on Queensway Drive.

Deputies say the person identified fit the description of the person who fled the scene of the crash. He is the registered owner of the car.

The department believes alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The driver is lodged at the Isabella County Jail, pending arraignment on charges of leaving the scene of an accident and operating while intoxicated.
