International student-made exhibit opening next week

Students in the English Language Institute will be presenting New Friends from Abroad: CMU Welcomes International Diversity in the Museum of Cultural and Natural History in Rowe Hall Dec. 8.

This exhibit will the result of collaboration between Museum Studies Program and Cultural Resource Management students and the ELI.

Students from ELI faculty Michelle Kourouma's ELI 071: Speaking and Listening class constructed a three-part exhibit examining the past, present and future of their experiences as international students.

ELI Director Richard Forest calls this project an important part of "internationalizing" CMU.

"It's not just a class project," Forest said. "They're not doing it for an audience of one, it's more than just practice, it's creating."

The exhibit is expected to be open through March 2016.
