Five wrestlers move on to quarterfinals at Southern Scuffle

With day one of the Southern Scuffle complete, the Central Michigan wrestling team is in eighth place with 27 points and 12 wrestlers still in the 31-team competition.

Several of the nation’s top teams are competing in the tournament, hosted in Chattanooga, Tennessee. CMU is still in contention with five wrestlers reaching the quarterfinal round and seven others reaching the consolation brackets.

Central Michigan’s Brent Fleetwood (125 pounds), Zach Horan (141), Justin Oliver (149), Luke Smith (157) and Mike Ottinger (174) all will compete in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

The No. 16 Chippewas are tied for eighth place with No. 17 Virginia, Wyoming and Edinboro, while No. 1 Penn State is in first place with 47.5 points.
