Two injured in accident at Mission and Broomfield intersection

An accident at the intersection of Mission Street and Bloomfield left two men injured late Friday just before midnight.

Jeff Thaller, a witness at the scene of the incident, said the men left the Burger King located on South Mission Street, and crossed the street headed east when they were hit by a car driving south. Thaller said the light for oncoming traffic was green when the men began to cross the street.

Officer Angela Brown said both men were alive at the scene and taken in a Mobile Medical Rescue ambulance to McLaren Hospital. Brown said police received a 911 call about the incident at 11:57 p.m.

One of the men was covered with a blanket at the scene to prevent heat loss. Brown said one of the men was airlifted from the hospital to another location. She said her superior officers would be informed if one of the victims died.

The driver of the vehicle and a witness driving in the lane next to him said the two men were running across South Mission Street when the collision occurred.

The driver was not arrested at the scene of the accident. Police allowed him to leave with his vehicle after investigating the scene.

Mount Pleasant police officers, Central Michigan University police officers, and Mobile Medical Rescue were present at the scene.
