Rapid Reaction: Central Michigan 67, Ball State 66
The Central Michigan women’s basketball team faced off against the Ball State Cardinals on Wednesday night, looking to sweep the season series. After a back-and-forth contest that went down to the wire, CMU came out on top 67-66.
CMU improves to 18-8 overall and 12-3 in the Mid-American Conference play. Ball State drops to 18-8 and 10-5 in MAC play.
Cold shooting
CMU struggled to make shots throughout the game, especially from 3-point range, where the Chippewas were 4-for-21. Freshman guard Presley Hudson was unable to score, going 0-for-12 from the field in 28 minutes of action. Hudson came into the contest averaging 14 points per game.
Moore, Breen lead scoring charge
Sophomore guard Cassie Breen led in scoring with 22 points on 6-of-16 shooting, including four free throws in the final 24.6 seconds to hold a late lead.
Sophomore forward Tinara Moore was second in scoring for the Chippewas with 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting, which included a 3-pointer in the opening quarter.
Dealing with Fontaine
In the Chippewas’ Feb. 10 game at Ball St., senior guard Nathalie Fontaine scored 29 points and collected 14 rebounds. Fontaine recovered from a cold first half, finishing with 19 points and 11 rebounds Wednesday. Sophomore forward Moriah Monaco chipped in with 17 points, including four makes from 3-point range.
What’s next
CMU travels to in-state rival Western Michigan on Saturday.
The Chippewas defeated the Broncos 53-51 earlier this season at McGuirk Arena and went 1-2 against WMU last season.
