Central Michigan University traveled to James Madison University (JMU) for the Mid-American Conference (MAC) quarterfinals on Nov. 5.

With seven minutes left in the game, JMU’s sophomore forward Madelief Molier set up to get the team a goal. She passed to freshman forward Sydney Raguini, who scored the final goal in the game.

The Dukes dominated this game with 23 shots, 19 of which were on goal.

CMU’s graduate goalkeeper Ashley Cogger stayed strong throughout the game.

Cogger was named MAC second-team alongside sophomore forward Carolena Ryon. The Chippewas’ senior forward Mallory Camryn was named first-team, and freshman midfielder Mora Rulli earned all-freshman honors.

According to CMU athletics, this is the first time Central Michigan has had at least four players named to the all-conference since 2014.

“It is impressive that we had 3 players get on the MAC this year,” CMU Head Coach Jennifer Johnstone told Central Michigan Life.

With about 30 seconds left in the first quarter, on a penalty corner, senior midfield/forward Amelia Lane sent the ball to junior defender Hailey Bainer. Bainer passed the ball back to Camryn to throw off James Madison’s defense.

Camryn shot the ball back to Bainer, who ran up to the net and scored the first goal for the Chippewas.

“We fell short, unfortunately,” Johnstone said.

Central Michigan had seven shots, one of which was on goal, but the team had six penalty corners. However, they weren’t able to score enough goals to win, and they lost 1-4.

“Collectively as a team,” Johnstone said about CMU’s field hockey performance this season. “I couldn’t be prouder.”
