Gymnastics falls in last MAC meet of the year

Despite scoring just .25 points away from the season high at 49.075 uneven bars, CMU couldn't overcome the personnel losses and dropped a conference meet to Eastern Michigan (15-3-1, 5-1 Mid-American Conference) Thursday 196.250 to 194.125.

Southeast Missouri also competed in the meet, scoring a 191.800.

The floor event was the biggest struggle for the Chippewas (12-3, 4-2 MAC), who were without the help of former MAC Gymnast of the Week recipient freshman Kasey Janowicz. The team scored a season low of 47.7, with senior Taylor Bolender leading the way at 9.825.

The Chippewa beam team had a solid night with an overall score of 48.975. CMU's beam anchor, sophomore Katy Clements, was also sidelined with an injury and did not compete.

Junior Caroline Fitzpatrick's 9.9 beam routine was tied for the highest score of the night for any team.

The 194.125 was CMU's third-lowest score of the season and the lowest since Jan. 8.

Head Coach Jerry Reighard could not be reached for comment, Thursday.

CMU will be back in action on March 19 in Muncie, Indiana for the MAC Championships.
