History of men's basketball program post season appearances

Central Michigan men's basketball enters the 2015-16 Mid-American Conference Tournament as the No. 4 seed and are set to play No. 12 Bowling Green on Thursday in Cleveland.

Here's a look at the program's history at the annual end-of-the-season conference tournament.

MAC Tournament Central


MAC Tournament Record: 15-21 

1987: First MAC Tournament Championship

No. 1 CMU beat No. 4 Eastern Michigan 80-76 then went on to beat No. 2 Kent State 64-63 in the championship game in front of a crowd of 5,900 people. CMU's Dan Majerle won the tournament MVP Award.

A year later in '88, the second-seeded Chippewas lost to No. 3 Ohio 66-64 in the semifinals.

1990: The seventh-seeded Chippewas made a tournament championship appearance, but were routed in Detroit by top-seeded Ball State 78-56. Carter Briggs was named to the All-MAC Tournament Team. 

2003: MAC Tournament Champions 

Tournament MVP Chris Kaman led the Chippewas to their second conference tournament championship with the help of fellow All-MAC Tournament Team member J.R. Wallace. CMU beat Kent State 77-67 in front of a crowd of 10,297 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. 

2015: No. 1 CMU made it to the championship game, but fell to Head Coach Bobby Hurley's two-seeded Buffalo Bulls 89-84. Chris Fowler and John Simons were named to the All-Tournament Team.

NCAA Division II Tournament: 3-3 

NAIA Tournament: 6-2 

NIT Tournament: 0-2
