First farmers market of 2016 scheduled for June 2 in Island Park

Mount Pleasant’s annual farmers markets will begin offering its in-season fruits and vegetables every Thursday starting June 2 and every Saturday starting June 25.

Organic plants, library cards and Garden Heroes are also available for purchase at the market.

Thursday farmers markets are located at the south shelter in Island Park from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and end Oct. 27. Saturday farmers markets are located at Mount Pleasant City Hall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and continue until Oct. 8.

Food assistance benefits accepted are SNAP/bridge cards, Double UP Food Bucks, WIC Project Fresh and Market Fresh.

The Michigan Farmers Market Association is a member-based, statewide association with a mission to advance farmers markets to create a thriving marketplace for local food and farm products.

Mount Pleasant has hosted a farmers market for over 40 years, according to the city's website.
