CMU pitcher Deeg named to All-MAC Tournament team


Central Michigan baseball starting pitcher, junior Nick Deeg has been named to the All-Mid-American Conference Tournament Team.

In his one start in the tournament, Deeg threw a complete-game shutout against the No. 2 seeded Ball State Cardinals. In his nine innings of work, he gave up four hits and walked one. He struck out eight Cardinals. 

His final season stats include 15 starts, 4-7 record, 3.95 ERA, 86 strikeouts (team high), 98 innings (team high), two complete games. No other CMU pitcher had a complete game in 2016. 

During his sophomore season in 2015, Deeg was named a Rawlings Gold Glove winner and earned All-MAC Defensive Team honors. He had eight wins, which was tied for the most in the MAC. He posted a 3.11 ERA. 

Deeg will be one-of-three senior pitchers next season for the Chippewas, along with right-hander Jordan Grosjean and southpaw Brady Williams.

The rest of the All-MAC Tournament Team includes two players from Eastern Michigan, three players from Kent State and four players from Western Michigan. The MAC Tournament MVP was named to WMU pitcher Keegan Akin.
