CMU athletics offseason filled with summer sports camps
The Central Michigan baseball team's loss in the Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinals on May 28 ended CMU's 2015-16 athletic year.
With the summer months upon us, many CMU teams will be hosting camps over the break.
The baseball team will host three camps this summer. The first camp for ages 13-19 is from June 26-28. A second camp for ages 8-12 will be held June 27-29. A potential prospects camp is scheduled for July 18.
These camps will feature hitting fundamentals, infield and outfield play, catching skills and pitching techniques.
The football team has seven camps this summer. The first camp began on June 12 and the last camp is on June 25. There are camps for specific grades in school, with one being for third grade through fifth grade, another for sixth through eighth grade, and others from ninth through 12th grade.
These camps will offer instructions on combine testing and techniques on specific positions. Camps for younger players will feature “fun football activities, while learning the basics of the game.”
“With any camp, you want to provide quality instruction,” said football Head Coach John Bonamego. “We want to teach them the fundamentals and techniques so they can help themselves become better football players.”
The men’s basketball team will also host camps this summer, with the first starting on June 25 and the last ending on Aug. 2. Age ranges are from 6-10, 11-14 and 13-18 years old.
The younger campers will learn fundamentals and the importance of sportsmanship. Older campers will be given proper shooting instruction and should expect to take over 1,000 shots over the four day period.
The women’s basketball team will offer similar camps as well.
Other CMU teams that will have summer camps include the field hockey, gymnastics, lacrosse, soccer, softball, volleyball and wrestling teams. These teams will also feature camps for younger and older players. The younger players will learn basic techniques and instruction from the coaches, while the older players will show off their skills and enhance what they already have.
