CMU extends Guevara's contract through 2021

With a Mid-American Conference West Division title and an appearance in the MAC Tournament Finals and the WNIT last season, Central Michigan women's basketball Head Coach Sue Guevara won't be leaving the program any time soon.

After seeing former Chippewa Crystal Bradford be selected seventh overall in the 2015 WNBA Draft, and a 22-11 (14-4 MAC) record last season, CMU extended Guevara's contract through the 2020-21 season. It is not known at this time how much money Guevara will be making.

Guevara is 153-134 during her nine year tenure at CMU. She's led CMU to 20-win seasons in five of the last six seasons.

"She has done an outstanding job of putting Central Michigan University women's basketball on the map as a national brand, and we're excited about what the future will bring," said CMU Athletics Director Dave Heeke. "Sue is not only an outstanding head coach, but a tremendous ambassador for our athletic program and the entire university."

Guevara was named MAC Coach of the Year in March and was the first CMU women's basketball coach to do so since 1985.

Among her accolades, she also coached the 2015-16 MAC Freshman of the Year, Presley Hudson. Hudson averaged 13.9 points per game and started in all 33 games for the Chippewas.

"I'm very appreciated to President Ross and Dave (Heeke) for their continued belief in and support of our program, and in me leading the program," Guevara said. "There's no place I'd rather be than right here at Central Michigan and I appreciate the fact that they are very welcoming and want me to stay."
