Volleyball wins Valparaiso Popcorn Tournament

Entering the annual Valparaiso Popcorn Festival tournament, the Central Michigan volleyball team boasted a record of 2-4. 

However, the Chippewas exited the tournament 3-0, and riding a four-game winning streak and champions of the tournament on Saturday.

Friday

In the first game of the weekend, the Chippewas made quick work of South Dakota State, defeating the Jackrabbits 3-0. Junior Jordan Bueter led CMU in kills, picking up 12 on the game. Senior setter Kathia Sanchez finished with 36 assists. On the defensive end, freshman Megan Kern and Bueter recorded 11 and 12 digs respectively.

In the second match, the Chippewas topped host Valparaiso 3-1. Junior Taylor Robertson picked up 16 kills, along with Sanchez's 51 assists. Junior Paige Carey was also credited for 6 blocks. 

Saturday

The Chippewas wrapped up the tournament title with a 3-1 victory over Southeast Missouri. 

With the win, the Chippewas improved to 5-4 on the year. Robertson finished with a tournament high of 18 kills in the game while Bueter contributed an additional 17 kills. Sanchez led the team with 23 digs.

CMU travels to Orlando next weekend for the University of Central Florida Challenge.
