CMU volleyball coach Mike Gawlik gathers the team together during practice on Aug. 31 at McGuirk Arena.

Following a spirited effort in a 3-2 loss at Ball State on Friday, Central Michigan's record fell to 0-2 in the Mid-American Conference in a 0-3 rout at Toledo.

"We came out flat in the beginning and we never really recovered from that," said head coach Mike Gawlik. "We had incredible fight the night before. We were all waiting for that push to get back in the match and I'm a little frustrated we never really found it."

Sophomore outside hitter Laura Wilson led the Chippewas with 10 kills. Senior setter picked up 13 assists in the match.

The Rockets out-blocked the Chippewas 9-1.

"We're looking forward to being in our own beds this weekend," Gawlik said. "It's nice to finally get back to being home. We haven't been home in five weeks, the amount of classes that are missed on Thursdays and Friday's put a lot of extra stress on your life.

With Saturday's loss, CMU (6-8) ends its 14 game road stretch. The Chippewas host Northern Illinois on Friday. NIU enters Friday's match against the Chippewas with a 9-4 record. Game time is 7 p.m. in McGuirk Arena.
