Fowler drafted by NBA Development League team

Chris Fowler has found his way to professional basketball.

The former Central Michigan men's basketball star was selected by the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the NBA Development League Draft on Sunday. The Mad Ants took Fowler with the seventh pick of the second round.

Fowler averaged 14.5 points per game over the course of four seasons at CMU. A two-time All-Mid-American Conference First Team selection, Fowler is CMU's all-time leader in assists (686).

Chippewa fans know Fowler as a four-year captain who helped the Chippewas win back-to-back MAC West Division titles during his junior and senior seasons.

The 6-foot-1 guard was named the MAC Player of the Year runner-up during his junior season in 2014-15 and earned votes for the award his senior season, despite missing the first seven games due to an undisclosed injury.

Fowler worked out for several NBA teams over the summer, but did not participate in the NBA Summer League in July. Former CMU teammate and guard Rayshawn Simmons played for the Washington Wizards during the Summer League.

The Mad Ants are an affiliate of the NBA's Indiana Pacers. Fort Wayne compiled a 20-30 record last season to finish in last place in the NBA D-League Central Division.

Fowler and the Mad Ants open the season against the Greensboro Swarm on Nov. 12.
