Central Michigan’s football team is currently preparing on the field for its bowl game, but several players were rewarded for work in the class room this semester.

15 CMU football players earned Academic All-Mid-American Conference honors on Tuesday.

Senior quarterback Cooper Rush earned the honor for the fourth consecutive year. Rush — who is a National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete — is joined by Ohio senior Kurt Laseak as the only players in the conference to make the list all four years.

Joe Bacci, Mark Chapman, Anthony Rice, Josh Cox, Jeff Perry and Jabari Dean all earned the award for the third time.

Austin Doan, Trevor Thomas and Winslow Chapman made the team for the second time.

Brandon Childress, Cooper Mojsiejenko, Joe Ostman, Devon Spalding and Luke Idoni all were given the honor for the first time.

Players must maintain a 3.2 grade point average or better to appear in more than half of the team’s games. True freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible for the award.

The Chippewas take on Tulsa at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Marlins Park in the Miami Beach Bowl.
