Junior forward Tinara Moore battles against a defensive player to get to the basket on Dec. 1, 2016 at McGuirk Arena.

After beating Loyola in the annual “Hoops for Hunger” game on Thursday, the Central Michigan women's basketball team was back at McGuirk Arena to take on the Univeristy of Illinois at Chicago on Saturday.

CMU won 77-55 and improved to 6-2 overall on the season. The Chippewas have won five games straight and have scored 70 or more points during the winning stretch. Junior and sophomore guard’s Cassie Breen and Presley Hudson led all scores with 18 points. Breen added four rebounds, while Hudson had seven assists and four boards of her own.

Slow Start, Strong Finish

After starting the game shooting 1-for-7 from 3-point range, the Chippewas improved to shoot nearly 43 percent from 3-point range in the second quarter while shooting 40 percent from the field.

Turnovers

Turnovers played a huge roll in both the first and second half to help CMU. UIC turned the ball over 13 times in the first half which lead to 15 points, nearly half of the Chippewas’ points. CMU won the turnover battle for the game 20-16 scoring a total of 28 points of off those turnovers.

Pulling Away

In the fourth quarter, Breen hit back-to-back 3-pointers and Hudson was able to find high-percentage shots to help give the Chippewas a 20-point lead. UIC couldn't find any offensive success against a stout CMU defense the forced 20 turnovers and allowed UIC to shoot under 35 percent, eventually leading to the 22 point CMU victory.

Whats Next

The Chippewas will head to West Lafayette, Indiana to take on Purdue. Tip-off will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
