Baseball falls to Boston College despite seventh inning rally

In its first game in Port Charlotte, Florida, the Central Michigan baseball team fell to Boston College by a score of 5-4.

The loss brings the Chippewas record to 3-5 in the regular season. This is their third-consecutive loss.

The Eagles drove in four runs in the bottom of the first inning to start the game.

After the next five innings passed with no runs scored from either teams, CMU rallied in the top of the seventh inning.

"We were finally able to break through in the top of the seventh (inning)," said head coach Steve Jaksa. "All of our runs came with two outs."

The scoring started for CMU when Daniel Jipping singled up the middle, followed by another single from Evan Kratt to get two runners on base.

Rob Greenman then batted in both runners on a double to left field.

Reed Adams, Alex Borglin and Daniel Robinson all singled following Greenman's double to score two more runs and tie the game at four.

Relief pitcher Zach Kohn walked two batters in the eighth inning. Boston College scored off of a single from Mitch Bigras to take the lead for the Eagles.

"We got them out in the seventh (inning), then we couldn't do much in the eighth (inning)," Jaksa said. "We walked a couple guys and they scored from second."

Starting pitcher Pat Leatherman played six innings in today's game. He finished letting in four runs off of six hits facing 26 batters. All four runs came in the first inning.

"He started pitching pretty well after that first inning," Jaksa said. "He threw the ball really well and kept us right there."

Borglin, Robinson and Jipping led the Chippewas with two hits each.
