Mount Pleasant City Commission will host a five-day-long community build project from Wednesday, May 17 to Sunday, May 21. The goal of the project will be to complete renovations needed for the Timber Town 2.0 Playscape located in Island Park.

Renovation of the playground was deemed necessary due to the degrading quality of the original structures, which were made of wood more than 20 years ago. The cost of updating the entire park is about $242,000. More than $112,000 will be covered by donations.

Two groups of volunteers will work each day with the first group working from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., and the second starting at noon and finishing their shift at 5 p.m. Lunch and dinner will be provided to the morning and afternoon groups, respectively.

The Timber Town Playscape was originally built through a similar volunteer project in 1994. Playground designers have been asking local children for assistance in the design process, taking drawings, sketches and paintings from elementary school classes and using them as inspiration for what children want the playground to look like.
