Thrilling Thursday to host educational insect exhibit

For the fourth week of the Thrilling Thursdays series, The City of Mount Pleasant will team up with Central Michigan University's Museum of Cultural and Natural History for an event titled 'Bugs R Us,' starting at 6 p.m. on July 6.

Bugs R Us is part of the 10-week Thrilling Thursdays series, which encourages residents to be active and explore the Mount Pleasant community. The event will be held in Town Center park on the corner of Main and Broadway streets.

The goal of the event is to educate children about unique types of insects through visual displays and hand-on activities. Museum of Cultural and Natural History educator Caity Burnell will be co-hosting the event, and will be supplying the insect specimens.

In addition to the insect specimens on display, attendees can also take part in arts and crafts projects, said Melinda Salchert, special events coordinator for the City of Mount Pleasant. Participants will also be given magnifying glasses of their own that they can use to look for insects in the grass of Town Center park.
