Ideation Bootcamp, the first workshop session of the year for the New Venture Competition, will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday Sept. 15, in Grawn Hall room 278.

The event is designed to prepare students who will take part in the New Venture Competition for the process of developing their ideas over the course of the school year.

Two professional entrepreneurs will co-host the event: John Ruther, owner of The Ruther Group, which assists business owners with strategic planning and financial management, and Caryn Shick, founder of Incuba8, an innovation and design consultancy which helps entrepreneurs develop their vision for their products.

"Ideation Bootcamp is going to get students excited about idea development, and walk them through the process of evolving their concepts," Shick said. "Our goal is to get (students) grounded for the New Venture Competition."

Teams for the New Venture Competition will also be formed during the event.

"Ideation" refers to the creative process of generating, developing and communicating new ideas, and includes the entire thought cycle of innovation, development and actualization, said Shick.
