The Central Michigan men’s basketball team has added graduate transfer guard Larry Austin Jr. to the program.

The 6-foot-2, 182-pounder played the 2017-18 season at Vanderbilt after redshirting in 2016-17. He was with Xavier the previous two seasons and will be eligible for the 2018-19 season.

Head coach Keno Davis said in a press release the program is very excited to add Austin for next season.

“The combination of talent and experience that he possesses will help (Austin) make an immediate impact on both ends of the court,” Davis said.

As a redshirt junior in the 2017-18 season, Austin played in 23 games and made three starts. He averaged 2.5 points per game in 11 minutes. He scored a season-high 13 points against USC and totaled 32 minutes in the contest.

In his two years with Xavier, Austin played in a total of 60 games but only made one start. In his sophomore campaign he averaged 1.8 points per game and 1.1 assist in 9.8 minutes. Out of Lanphier High School in Illinois, Austin was the No. 108 overall prospect and was No. 22 at the point guard position by 247Sports.

CMU returns transfer point guard Shawn Roundtree who started all 36 games, leading the team with 151 assists and was second in scoring at 14.8 points per game. They also return sophomore guard Matty Smith and transfer guard Gavin Peppers, who split time backing up Roundtree.
