A campaign kick-off party will take place for Mount Pleasant Mayor Allison Quast-Lents to officially announce her candidacy for the Michigan State House District 99 seat at 5 p.m. April 19 at 117 S. Main St.

Various people will be speaking on her behalf at the event, including House Minority Floor Leader Christine Greig, D-Farmington Hills. Greig will speak about why strong women leaders are needed in office.

The event will be held in the old New Yorker building that Quast-Lents and her husband revitalized. It is open to the public.

A lifelong resident of Mount Pleasant and mayor since January, Quast-Lents said she wants to take what she does at the local level on city commission and be the champion in Lansing rooting for the district community.

As state representative, she said she would work to secure resources the district needs to thrive and put hard-working people ahead of wealthy campaign donors.
