Women's basketball releases 2018-19 schedule
Nothing will be easy in the 2018-19 season for the Central Michigan women's basketball team.
But that's how coach Sue Guevara likes it.
“Central Michigan women’s basketball players wouldn’t want it any other way," Guevara said.
The Chippewas played 12 games in the nonconference against Oakland, South Dakota State, Western Kentucky, Central Florida, Virginia, Chattanooga, Iona, Quinnipiac, Vanderbilt, Louisville, Miami (FL) and Tulane.
South Dakota State, Western Kentucky, Virginia, Quinnipiac, Louisville and Miami (FL) all made the NCAA Tournament in 2018 and are on CMU's schedule this time around.
CMU plays two tournaments in the nonconference - the Virginia Cavalier Classic and Miami (FL) Holiday Classic.
“Somebody asked me who was going to be tough in the conference and I just kind of laughed and said, ‘You know what? I guess I have to figure out who’s not going to be tough," Guevara said.
“The styles have changed, the recruiting has improved and we have coaches who develop players. Our league has continued to get better and better. That’s why we had two in the big dance last year. It’s a tough, tough conference and that’s why we have to have the nonconference schedule that we do.”
In the Mid-American Conference West Division, CMU plays home-and-home with Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Ball State, Northern Illinois and Toledo. For the East Division, the Chippewas battle Buffalo on Feb. 6 and Feb. 16.
The Bulls were the only other MAC team to make the NCAA Tournament last season.
