Merav Tzur, an interpretive video performance artist from Israel, is coming to Central Michigan University to talk about her newest project: “No Admittance.”

Tzur, the 2018 Barstow Artist-in-Residence, will speak at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17 in Wightman Hall Room 142.

“No Admittance” will be displayed in the West Gallery of the University Art Gallery from Sept. 14 to Oct. 6.

Tzur was born in Hatzor, Israel in 1967 and moved to the United States when she was 22 years old. She studied art at California College for the Arts and University of California, Berkeley.

Tzur’s artwork has been displayed at the Contemporary Jewish Museum and the Yerba Buena Center of the Arts in San Fransisco, California, and the Kroswork Gallery in Oakland, California.

"Merav will be able to teach students quite a bit about the realities of life as a working artist," said Kris Sanford, Barstow Artist-in-Residence Committee chair. "I hope she shares her knowledge and experience regarding planning, funding, and executing art projects."

The Barstow Artist-in-Residence program, sponsored by the CMU Department of Art and Design, selects an artist each semester to educate students and enrich the community of artists, said University Art Gallery Director Anne Gochenor.

The program comes from a large donation of Stephen L. Barstow's estate and endowment to the Art Department.

"Folks who are interested in fostering community through art should definitely attend this talk," Sanford said.

The event is free and open to the public.
