Carol Gabbard, mother of U.S. presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard, will speak at a Mid Michigan College event this week.

At 2 p.m. Thursday, March 5, Gabbard will take part in a discussion at the “Toffee and Coffee with Tulsi’s Mom” event on the community college’s Mount Pleasant campus in its Community Room. The event is hosted by the college's Human Rights and Wellness Club.

Gabbard will also speak to Central Michigan University classes that morning, said Alan Gamble, the club's co-adviser.

The event will be non-partisan and will not be a political campaign, Gamble said. Discussion will cover topics such as prejudice, Aloha, respect and justice, and there will be free samples of Hawaiian coffee and macadamia toffee.

Gamble said Gabbard is in Michigan from March 2-9.

Gabbard was born in Indiana, went to high school in Grand Rapids, went to the University of Michigan, and currently resides in Hawaii.
